WISE UP. . . . PEOPLE WHO GOSSIP CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. . . .

The moment somebody begins to gossip stop them and ask, “Why do I need to know this? Have you talked to the person you’re talking about?”

The Bible says that when you listen to gossip you are a troublemake r: “Troublemakers listen to troublemakers.” And Jude adds: “It is these who are [agitators] setting up distinctions and causing divisions--merely sensual [creatures, carnal, worldly-minded people], devoid of the [Holy] Spirit and destitute of any higher spiritual life.” (Jude 1:.19 AMP). Those are serious charges.

And the Internet has only made the problem worse because now you can spread gossip faster and wider, and remain anonymous while you are doing it.

Paul speaks about those who “devour one another…[and your whole fellowship]” (see Galatians 5:15 ). He says they should be avoided and disciplined. When was the last time you saw that happen in church?

Solomon said, “A gossip reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a babbler” (see Proverbs 20:19). In other words, “keep clear of them.”

The quickest way to end gossip is to confront those who are spreading it.

The church is not a “tell all” television show where we expose people and hang out their dirty linen for the entire world to see. Quite the opposite: “Fire goes out for lack of fuel, and tensions disappear when gossip stops” (see Proverbs 26:20).

Jesus taught us how to deal with personal difficulties when they arise:

(1) “Work it out between the two of you.”

(2) “If he (she) won’t listen, take one or two others along.”

(3) “If he (she) still won’t listen, tell the church [leadership]” (Matthew 18:15-17).
That’s Christ’s way, and it must be our way too.

Heavenly Father, the message here today is one that is of great importance to all, I ask You today that as those that read this, You will let their minds be open and that they will completely understand the importance of this message and that You will open their hearts to feel the damage that is done through the tongue. So many are hurt through words spoken. Heal them Father, let the words roll off of them. Seal up the lips of those that speak the rumors, gossip, and untruths, so they can no longer say these things. Convict their hearts of the wrongs they are doing, and most of all Father, lead them back to You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen
